To dispose of toxic substances, use the S. T. O. P. Program (STOP THROWING OUT POLLUTANTS).

Common household products like paints, cleaners and polishes, can endanger our groundwater resource if disposed of indiscriminately with regular household garbage, and they can actually be corrosive, toxic or explosive. Over the last few years, the S. T. O. P. Program, sponsored by the North Hempstead Solid Waste Management Authority, has provided a scheduled collection program for citizens to drop off these products so they may be disposed of properly.

Remember: Batteries, motor oil, bottles, cans and other ordinary trash can be dropped off any Saturday or Sunday at the North Hempstead Solid Waste Management Authority, 999 West Shore Road, Roslyn. The hours are 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

For further information call the STOP Program at (516) 767-4608 or (516) 767-4600.
