Department Staffing

The Lake Success Police Department is comprised of sworn members of service with three full time and five part time dispatchers under the command of a Police Chief. All personnel are selected from the Nassau County Civil Service lists. The primary tasks performed by the police department are to enforce laws, maintain peace, order, and public security, provide quality of life services, prevent crime and other offenses, apprehend offenders and bring them to justice, and address the fears and concerns of the public with respect to crime and disorder. Additional duties involve traffic patrol, traffic supervision, juvenile programs, community relations and responding to all calls for assistance.

Supervising the Patrol Division on every shift is a Patrol Supervisor, a member holding the rank of Sergeant. The Watch Commander, a member of the department generally holding the rank of Lieutenant, supervises the daily Headquarters operations and is in command of the Department in the absence of the Chief of Police.

All police personnel continue to receive additional training by attending seminars and other courses of study.

The police department cooperates closely with other police departments, the Fire Department, the Mayor and Trustees, and the Village Court.

An "Enhanced 911" telephone system is in place so that local residents can dial "911" from their home and get connected to the Village of Lake Success Police facility.
